All dogs need some handling and husbandry care. Whether it’s nail trims and annual vet check up or brushing and hair cut at the groomers every 2 months. How do you teach your dog to be comfortable with having these things done?
Your dog can consent to nail trims and more!
Just touching your dog’s paws often isn’t enough to set them up for success for nail care for their lifetime and if they are a long haired or non shedding they’ll need much more care than just nails to keep managed.
Whether you want to get started working on these skills while they are young to get ahead of the game or have an older dog that is having troubles at the groomer or vet clinic, there is a solution! It can be heartbreaking when you are just trying to take care of your dog’s needs and it becomes a battle because they are scared of what is going to happen.
I ran a grooming salon for 8 years where I helped and worked with fearful and aggressive dogs through the grooming process. Often these dogs had already been rejected from other groomers due to their anxiety with being handled. Though I had to discontinue grooming, I still work with and help dogs build confidence with being handled for medical procedures at the vet clinic and the grooming process. These dogs go from being fearful and often aggressive, to cooperating with the grooming process without any sneaking or tricks to get it done!

How it Works
I come to your home so you have one on one attention for you and your dog as you learn.
We start with a consultation to go over what your dog is struggling with and set some goals for you and your dog. Every dog is different, so every training plan will be different. We will also cover some management methods to keep your dog’s needs managed until we can make more progress through the training.
In lessons, we start from the very beginning to build trust with your dog letting us touch them with random objects all over. This is the foundation to build later skills on.
Once your dog is comfortable with being touched with random objects, we will then move on to your more specific training plan we covered in the consultation. This can be anything from proper paw handling and nail trimmer for nails, to building the brush into the picture.
